Setting Up Fonts Within Chrome OS

After what I might consider as an intriguing couple of months, playing around with my new Dell Chromebook 14 has been anenjoyable ride.

Finally being able to tinker with a Chrome OS powered system has given me a newer and a more fruiteous perspective to what many consider as a not so fun platform — a norm which I have discovered to have little basis.

Though the platform does come with some annoyances, but what it have in limitations is completely overshadowed  by its strength in departments like security and information centralization.

One of the most-talked-about additions to Chrome OS was the inclusion of Android apps — which is turning out to the needed push the platform needed to become a viable competitor — and what I find quite interesting is despite opening up the Play Store to Chromebooks, the Web Store (the premier hub for Chrome apps) was still able to maintain its relevance.

Despite the former being more popular and far more populated than the latter, it still grants you access to apps that you can’t find on the Play Store like this Advanced Font Settings addon for Chrome.

Lets say you are a recent Chromebook owner like me but being a picky person, you don’t like how the default font for your system is set up.

Want to change it? Just follow these simple steps.

Go to Settings———>Appeareance———>Customize fonts——-> Advanced Font Settings

You will be directed to the Web Store to download the Advanced Font Settings addon extension for Chrome.

With this extension, you can easily configure the font settings for different language scripts. An example is, you can set the default font for Simplified Chinese content to be displayed differently than the font for Korean or Japanese content.

Adjustments can be made per your preference and there are scripts available for several languages.

And having been a writer for the good part of the past three years (covering varying subjects on the major mobile platforms), No place has ever felt more like home than Chrome OS. And as you may know, Chrome OS is ushering us into a future of the unknown and I'm here to help in the process of easing the way into that future via ItsChromeOS.
