Google Has a Plan To Declutter Chrome’s Tab Options
I recently published an article outlining how to easily switch between Chrome OS’s Stable and Canary channels, however, what I didn’t mention is that the same compartmentalized structure of Chrome OS is available in the standalone Chrome browser and naturally, subscribing to the Canary channel (irrespective of the platform) grants you access to the bleeding edge of Chrome development.
Google has been known to be drastic with some of the changes it makes to some of its biggest products– many of which have been criticized –-, and this new omission is bound to ruffle a few feathers.
Currently available in the Canary preview nightly builds, Google is previewing some major decluttering changes when you trigger a right-click action on a tab in Chrome after which you’re presented with the absence of traditional menu options such as New tab, Close other tabs, Reopen closed window and Bookmark all tabs.
Removing these have significantly reduced the amount of options users are presented with when they right-click on a tab within the browser but we are unsure if Google is only testing the waters with the removal at this time.
Furthermore, since changes made to the Canary build don’t always get shipped with the final build, it’s possible that you may never get to see this feature implemented in a future update.
