Chrome OS 78 Brings More Multitasking Options and Easy Printer Configuration
Chrome as a standalone browser and Chrome as an operating system are so similar in the features that they receive that it is sometimes hard to tell them apart (they are managed under the same open-source Chromium project).
It is because of this that usually features that make their way to the Chrome Browser eventually hits Chrome OS.
Recent additions to the Chrome browser like Native File System access ( allows webpages to directly access your storage medium), Click-to-call (which in essence allows your you dial numbers from the browser to any connected Android smartphone) all made their way to Chrome OS but the search titan is adding few exclusives to the operating system.
The new addition centers around making multitasking a lot easier on Chrome OS by allowing users create multiple virtual desks tops as well as the much-needed Printer capability improvements.
For what seemed like the longest time, Chrome OS and printers don’t play nice with each other but with Chrome OS 78, if you are connected to more than one printer, all compatible printers will automatically show up in your list of targets when you press Ctrl + P to initiate a print session.
Furthermore, you can set a specific printer as your default by tweaking the settings menu under the Printer section.
Google also made sure that setting up and adding printers is not much of a hassle as the company has seemingly reduced the steps required to add one.
Virtual desktops are by far the biggest addition to Chrome OS 78 and you can help yourself to multiple workspaces by just opening the Overview and click or tap New desk in the top right corner of the interface. This allows you to drag and drop windows between the spaces.
This means using your Chromebook for projects just got a little easier as you can dedicate multiple tasks to their own seprate window.
