Dolby Vision HDR Might Be Coming to Google Play Movies And TV
XDA developers have a well-documented history of finding features way before anybody else due to their thirst for invasiveness by cracking open the inearths of apps and scrutinizing the mechanisms put in place.
According to a report after their most recent app teardown of v4.17.22 of Google Play Movies and TV suggests the platform is getting ready for a major new feature based on the code they discovered.
The discovery suggests that Google is gearing towards adding Dolby Vision HDR to its Play Movies and TV app on Android.
The widely used open-source HDR10 format offers similar capabilities but Dolby Vision HDR draws from a larger pool of technologies allowing it to leverage the maximum potential of new projection technologies used in Cinema.
Add that to the recent uptake in capabilities offered by newer displays and the result in more refined output results, better wide-color gamut, and more lifelike images.

It is unclear whether the aforementioned feature is only limited to the Android version of the platform and it is unclear when it will become widely available.
However, should it eventually see the light of day, it is possible that content available on the platform will be upgraded to support the set of new features.
